Wish You Were Here

Today is Random Act of Kindness Day.

However, we shouldn’t need a day to be kind to our fellow man. Every day, aspire to be kinder, gentler. Forgive someone who wronged you, smile at a stranger, donate to those in need. Do it because you want to, not because you HAVE to.

Too many people in this world think helping others is a status symbol, like so many celebrities portray it as. In reality, we should be kind for no other reason than it is the right thing to do. We’re all fighting a battle in this life, whether it’s a physical ailment, mental illness or simply life is an uphill battle. We do not know what that person downtown is drinking to escape or that person on the bus is trying to handle. We do not know because we do not care. Maybe we should start caring about our fellow man. Encourage relationships with people who make us want to be better people. Before we act, think “if someone did this to my child/friend/family member, how would I feel?” Show compassion for the least of us.

Maybe it’s good to have one day of kindness, because maybe it’ll turn into two, then three. My hope to all of you is one day there won’t need to be a day for people to be kind; we’ll already know.
