Day two: Something you love about yourself
I know many people would think that I would say my daughters; but they’re not me. They’re the most important part of my life, but they are three individuals who are going to carve their own paths. I love being a mom but I’m not going to say my children are a thing I love about myself. It’s a titch bit narcissistic to say that other people are what I love about myself.
I do love being their mom. They astound me & amaze me with their capacity for love, their wit, they just amaze me. They’re smarter and stronger than I was at their age & they are going to change the world. I’m so proud of who they are.
The other thing I love about me is my job. Writing is what I was born to do; it’s all I’m good at, it’s the only thing I love. There’s nothing more exhilarating than opening up a magazine & seeing my name beside an article & knowing that other people are going to read it. They may even enjoy it! It’s pretty much the most awesome non-parenting moment in the world & every month when I see my name as EIC, I get the same giddiness that I did the very first time my work was published in the college paper. I could talk for hours about sentence structure & word count & leads. It’s the most interesting thing in the world to me & the one thing that I’m arrogant about.
Raising my girls & writing are the only things in life I’m truly proud of & the things I was put on this Earth to do, it’s all I would ever want to do. Those things make me who I am & who I want to be.
