Is It Too Late To Apologize?

Current WWE World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton shocked the wrestling world with his scathing tell all radio interview in which he blasted fellow wrestler Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson & current Divas Champion Kelly Kelly.

In the interview, Orton discussed a segment where Orton seduced & abandoned Kelly (real name Barbie Blank). The host claimed that he would have wanted to be a “method actor” for the segment to which Orton said “I know of about 10 method actors backstage right now.” Upon further prompting, Orton implied that many of Kelly’s bedmates are top drawing WWE superstars. Orton later bashed the young women portraying his wife in the interview. (Orton later apologized to Kelly on Twitter for his comments)

This is not the first time that Orton has been in trouble with the Divas. Former Diva Rochelle Loewen left the company in 2005 after Orton vandalized her bag with self tanner. Later that year Amy Weber left after Orton allegedly poured a drink over her head. Orton was suspended on several occasions for poor conduct & it appeared that his attitude had changed since his marriage in 2007. However, this incident would lead one to believe this is not the case.

This is also not the first time Kelly has been insulted by a male wrestler. Carlito Colon allegedly told fans at an autograph signing before his release that Kelly was “passed around like a doobie.”

Male wrestlers are known for their extra curricular activites. Bret Hart & Ric Flair’s respective books were filled with tales of their dalliances. The Undertaker (real name: Mark Calaway) allegedly dumped his wife Sara for his mistress (now wife), former Diva Michelle McCool. Former Diva Taryn “Tiffany” Terrell tweeted a conversation between her estranged husband Drew McIntyre (real name: Drew Galloway) & Chavo Guerrero where Guerrero was showing off the panties he kept as a souvenir from his night with a stripper (Guerrero is married). Meanwhile, Kelly is vilified for playing the field. Not only were Orton’s comments disrespectful to Kelly, but to WWE as a whole. Kelly is the reigning Divas champion, the face of the Divas division. By putting down the leader of the Divas locker room in such a public way, Orton is inferring that the women she represents are slutty & loose. Kelly is a new champion and has only held the title for 10 days. She should be doing press as the Divas Champion, but will most likely be defending herself from Orton’s hateful comments. The Divas get such little respect as it is; little to no TV time, their title rarely represented on Pay Per View, why wouldn’t Orton use that opportunity to praise the Divas Champion & make her sound credible? That would have been better for WWE.

I’m wondering what Kelly or her offscreen beau Justin Gabriel (real name: Paul Lloyd) think of Orton’s “apology”? What about Orton’s wife? Orton has a young daughter, are those the types of comments he’d want someone saying about her someday? Personally, if I were Kelly, I wouldn’t accept his tweeted apology. After all, if a Diva took it to the WHC, they’d likely be released. I also hope WWE steps in and shows Orton that disrespecting the face of the Divas in the middle of her big push isn’t cool. Maybe if he was booked to drop his title and a nice stay in the doghouse will help him remember that if you can’t say anything nice…
